This place was amazing. Very caring and attentive. They were understanding to my situation and accommodated my needs. Everyone is hands on from the techs to the owner. There's only a handful of guests at a time so there's personal care in an intimate setting. I'm very grateful for the magic I experienced at The Retreat.

Dr. Eric Chaghouri leads the medical program at The Retreat Orange County — double board-certified in both Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine. Most treatment programs don't have this combination on site. Here, psychiatric care is built into the program itself, with at least weekly psychiatric visits for every client. Not a referral after discharge. Not an afterthought. Day one.
We approach co-occurring conditions aggressively — depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder need to be addressed, not parked until after detox. Here, every client receives psychiatric care with at least weekly psychiatric visits — which goes above and beyond the standard of care.
— Dr. Eric Chaghouri, MD
Dr. Chaghouri earned his medical degree from the Keck School of Medicine of USC and completed his psychiatry residency at Los Angeles County + USC Medical Center — one of the busiest public hospitals in the country — where he was selected as Chief Resident of Psychiatric Emergency Services. He then completed fellowship training in forensic psychiatry at the USC Institute of Psychiatry and Law.
In a six-bed program, medical directorship isn't a title on a wall. Dr. Chaghouri personally designs and oversees every detox protocol — using validated tools like COWS and CIWA-Ar and tailoring each plan to the individual's substance history, co-occurring conditions, and real-time presentation.
In a large program, clients can get lost. Here, the entire staff knows your name. The team is intimate, cohesive, and in constant communication — which means the medical oversight isn't just closer, it's more tailored.

We know reaching out takes courage. Here are the questions most people have before they call — answered honestly.
Call Us NowNo. Your treatment is completely private and protected by federal HIPAA law. We will never share information about your stay with your employer, family members, or anyone else without your explicit written consent. Confidentiality is not just a policy here — it's a core commitment.
We accept most major insurance plans including Aetna, Anthem, BCBS, Cigna, and Beacon. Many clients pay little to nothing out of pocket. We verify your benefits within minutes — free, with no commitment required. Call us or submit your information and we'll give you a clear picture of what's covered before you make any decision.
We maintain a flexible technology policy designed to support clients who have professional and family responsibilities. We'll work with you to create a plan that keeps your life moving while you focus on healing. This isn't a lockdown facility — it's a supportive environment built for people with real lives.
Fear of withdrawal is the most common reason people delay getting help — and it's exactly why medical detox exists. Our team uses evidence-based medications to manage and minimize withdrawal symptoms, and a registered nurse is physically present 24 hours a day to intervene the moment your comfort changes. Most clients are surprised by how manageable it is with proper medical support.
Same-day admissions are available. Once we've verified your insurance and completed a brief clinical assessment — which can happen in one phone call — we coordinate everything else. Many clients arrive the same day they first reach out. We never want timing to be a barrier.
Most clients complete detox in 3 to 10 days, depending on the substance, duration of use, and individual health factors. Dr. Chaghouri and the clinical team assess your progress daily and adjust your protocol accordingly. You will never be rushed — your safety and stability come first.
Detox is the foundation, not the finish line. Our clinical team works with you throughout detox to build your next-step plan — whether that's transitioning directly into our residential program, or stepping down to a lower level of care. You will never be discharged without a clear, supported path forward.
Yes — and you're in exceptional hands here. Most treatment programs refer psychiatric conditions out after discharge. We treat them as part of your program from day one. Dr. Chaghouri is double board-certified in both Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine, and every client receives at least weekly psychiatric visits — integrated into your stay, not tacked on later.
There's a reason families choose The Retreat when only the best level of care will do.
